Quintette asks writers five quick questions. This week’s interview is with:
Wendy L Curtis
1. What’s the name of your latest book – and how hard was it to pick a title?
Above And Beyond is the title and it took me an age to think of something that suited the story and characters. I’m one of these people that either get a story title before I start writing or can take till the end to come up with something.
This title really suited because both characters really do go Above and Beyond the call of duty to solve their mystery and take care of each other and a new born baby. I did expect it may get changed by the publisher but thankfully Escape Publishing thought it as perfect for Roxy and Rob’s sexy suspense story as I did.
2. If you could choose anyone from any time period, who would you cast as the leads in your latest book?
Hmmmmmm. This is tough because my visual on these two isn’t all that refined. I work more with the personality types with characters. However, I would likely peg Roxy close to Kate Byrne and Rob is the quintessential Aussie bloke being a good cross between Hugh Jackman and Chris Hemsworth, lol. Best of both worlds, hey ladies?
3. What five words best describe your story?
Scorching. Emotional. Real. Aussie. Brisk.
4. Who is your favourite fictional couple?
If we are talking movies, Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore in 50 First Dates, my all-time favourite Rom-Com. TV series, definitely Ma and Pa Larkin from The Darling Buds of May. I can’t choose a book couple, there are so many.
5. What song always makes you cry?
ooh now you’ve got me. Depends on my mood and headspace at the time but one that tends to get me emotional is Fix You byColdplay. I’m sure I’m not alone there 😉
About Above and Beyond
In the sticky, steamy jungles of Papua New Guinea, they fight for the lives of the world’s most vulnerable people. They didn’t expect to have to fight for their own.
All investigative journalist Roxy Williams wanted was a hot one-night stand: quick, dirty, and completely one-off. A business transaction to ease stress, loosen tension, and allow her to get right back to her job — exposing the heart-breaking realities of people smuggling. So when all hell breaks loose in a small village on Papua New Guinea, the last person Roxy expects to see is her one-night-stand and male escort, Rob, with a boat, a beach, and an escape plan!
Rob is supposed to be long-gone from this assignment, but after their one night together, he can’t seem to let Roxy go. Using all his resources, Rob risks his job to keep track of her — and when a huge storm threatens, he goes after the sexy journalist. Now they’re together, in danger, and fighting for their lives. People smuggling is a big money industry, and the smugglers are playing for keeps.
