Quintette asks writers five quick questions. This week’s interview is with Sarah Daltry!
Sarah Daltry
1. What’s the name of your latest book – and how hard was it to pick a title?
Bitter Fruits. It was actually an easy title, because I knew from the beginning where the mythology was centered. I searched for a quote about the prominent figures in the mythology (I’m being vague intentionally so as not to give anything away) and came across a quote by Byron. Since I love Byron and the quote worked, it all made sense.
2. If you could choose anyone from any time period, who would you cast as the leads in your latest book?
As Nora? Aubrey Plaza. She has the right snark.
3. What five words best describe your story?
Sexy, complicated, nontraditional, intellectual, funny
4. Who is your favourite fictional couple?
Lady Brett Ashley and Jake Barnes (from Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises). They’re incredibly awful to each other but I find them realistic.
5. What song always makes you cry?
“Green Fields of France” by the Dropkick Murphys or “Waltzing Matilda” by Tom Waits
.
And Patrick Stump’s cover of Waltzing Matilda (also known as Tom Traubert’s Blues) because I really like his version:
About Sarah:
Sarah Daltry writes about the regular people who populate our lives. She’s written works in various genres – romance, erotica, fantasy, horror. Genre isn’t as important as telling a story about people and how their lives unfold. Sarah tends to focus on YA/NA characters but she’s been known to shake it up. Most of her stories are about relationships – romantic, familial, friendly – because love and empathy are the foundation of life. It doesn’t matter if the story is set in contemporary New York, historical Britain, or a fantasy world in the future – human beings are most interesting in the ways they interact with others. This is the principle behind all of Sarah’s stories.
When Sarah isn’t writing, she tends to waste a lot of time checking Facebook for pictures of cats, shooting virtual zombies, and simply staring out the window.
